This lowkey hideaway bar tucked inside the K5 hotel is decorated in red and surrounded by antique books, making it a great place to relax over a drink, just around the corner from one of the most historical areas of the city.

Ao focuses on cocktails that incorporate tea. Each drink fuses a tea with a carefully selected alcohol along with herbs, spices and ingredients that you would never have thought would go together. It's quite an unique experience, one that begins with the bartender and their haori (Japanese coat), which is more typically associated with someone who works with tea or Chinese medicine.

It's not a bar simply for good cocktails, it's one that is focused on the craft and storytells an experience.

Great bar with great atmosphere!
Excellent service and the cocktails were really nice, and came with some refreshments. Very cozy environment and great to spend a night to relax after a long day!

If you are looking for a lowkey cocktail bar with ambience, history, and an unbelievable range of drinks, then this is your place.

The bar - situated on the 1st floor of the repurposed First National Bank in Nihonbashi - specialises in tea-infused cocktails. The drinks we tried were excellent in both creativity and taste - especially the Gramaroni, a rum based cocktail with a deep earthy flavour and notes of coffee akin to an espresso martini. What also impressed was the seasonal drinks which clearly had a lot of thought into them. For example a melon soda cocktail that tasted just like melon, but in fact not a single melon was used…mind blowing.

The staff were extremely attentive, willing to listen, and delivered cocktail explanations very clearly. They even recreated a signature cocktail (the Banana &Co) that had been removed from the seasonal menu for us. Great service all around. The menu itself also deserves a special mention, as it tells the story of Eiichi Shibusawa (the founder of First National Bank & the soon to be face of the 10,000 yen note) through each of the respective drinks’ pages. Such a touch really adds another level to the experience of drinking here.

Topped off with being situated in an old library, this bar is a one of a kind in East Tokyo. Cannot recommend enough.

Simple place, yet amazing. The bartender is great, love the details of the menu design, cocktails and bar snacks. So many thoughts into it that we should all take a moment to appreciate it.

銀行の応接室をリノベーションして作られたバー。お店の名前はAoなのに、赤色を基調にしたのがちょっと面白い。数個のスポットライトとバンカーズライトで明かりが少なく、落ち着いた空間。お茶をベースにしたカクテルを揃えており、渋沢栄一の生涯をテーマにしたメニューはたぶんここだけなのでは。
兜町界隈のお茶屋さんや和菓子屋さん、たくさんのお店とも繋がりがあるようで、お店単体として素敵なのはもちろん、コミュニティとしても素晴らしい場でした。
写真はオリジナルカクテルと日本橋の和菓子屋さんが、家内の誕生日に作っていただいた和菓子。

宿泊のディナーの後に利用しました。
お酒は渋沢栄一の生涯をコンセプトにしたカクテルが置いてあり、勉強になりました。
お通しのナッツもとても美味しかったです。

A low key cocktail ? bar and lounge with tea-based concoctions I adore. The Kabuto Highball is simply amazing with a hint of cinnamon and bran tea, finishing with citrus. Ambience is great. A perfect pre-dinner drinks venue for a date.
